How it is calculated

Barter received = price × (1 − cash share)
Net from asset = barter × appraisal × (1 − sale discount) − holding cost × months
Cost = supplier cost × (1 + foreign share × currency move)
Each amount is discounted to today at the cost of money, by when it is received or paid
Risk-adjusted margin = (today’s value of cash + asset − cost) ÷ today’s value of cash + asset
